Nestled into the hillside of Austin’s Tarrytown neighborhood, the landscape at Bremen Street transforms a steeply sloped site into a dynamic sequence of outdoor rooms—each defined by elevation, movement, and momentary pause. Rather than treating the topography as a constraint, the design embraces it as a sculptural framework, using shifts in grade to carve out layered, intimate spaces that unfold gradually across the site.

The residence, a sleek and contemporary structure, is grounded in the landscape through thoughtful planting and spatial transitions. Native and regionally appropriate plant species soften the home’s clean lines and provide ecological resilience while anchoring the architecture within the broader Central Texas context. These plantings spill across terraces and frame views at every turn, blurring the divide between building and terrain.

A central design gesture—grass-set stone steps—serves both as a connective thread and a visual hallmark. These steps move fluidly through the landscape, weaving together upper and lower terraces and inviting the user to experience the site vertically as well as horizontally. Each level introduces a new perspective: shaded seating areas, sunlit clearings, and quiet nooks tucked into the slope—all designed to offer both retreat and connection.
