Designing for Impact: How LSI is Elevating Affordable Housing in Austin Through Mixed-Use Urban Infill
At LSI, we’ve always believed that design has the power to shape communities—and transform lives. As a multidisciplinary design firm rooted in Austin, we recognize that our city’s creative culture is the heartbeat of what makes it unique. From the artists and musicians to the entrepreneurs and innovators, it’s the people who infuse energy and identity into the city. Yet too many of these cultural contributors are being priced out of the very neighborhoods they helped shape.
That’s why LSI set out with a clear mission: to use our expertise in land planning, architecture, entitlement strategy, and landscape design to help deliver high-quality, financially viable affordable housing in urban Austin. Austin has experience rapid growth in the past decade accompanied with rising housing costs and displaced residents of all income levels. Maintaining economic diversity preserves a healthy and functioning economy within city limits, and this is why designing for impact has become core to the projects LSI is taking on.
With several multi-family projects under way and or built, LSI is leading this initiative. LSI’s recent projects, such as Cadena at the Falls and The Grant, are prime examples of newly-built communities that offer income-based, affordable housing.
With several more projects in the pipeline, LSI is continuing to push the boundaries of what affordable housing can be in Austin. Our team remains committed to delivering mixed-use infill projects that are both economically and socially impactful—creating spaces where people from all walks of life can live, connect, and thrive.
We’re proud of the role we’re playing in shaping a more inclusive and vibrant Austin—and we’re just getting started.
