Live Oak Residence | Austin, TX

Nestled in the heart of Austin’s historic Bouldin neighborhood, the Live Oak Residence is a contemporary response to a uniquely challenging and beautiful site. Set on a deep, narrow lot dating back to the 19th century, the design is centered around a majestic specimen live oak that anchors the property and defines the spatial organization of the home. Rather than working around the constraints, LSI embraced the presence of the tree as a design opportunity—allowing it to shape both the architecture and outdoor experience.

The residence is composed of two distinct structures: a primary home for a family of four, and a guest house that serves as flexible space for visitors, work, and wellness. The main home features soft, sculpted interiors and an open floor plan that flows naturally toward the outdoors, fostering a sense of calm and continuity. The guest house offers private accommodations with direct access to the tree-shaded courtyard, creating moments of retreat and reflection.

Throughout the project, every space is oriented to engage with the site’s heritage live oaks—celebrating their sculptural presence and the shade, privacy, and serenity they bring to urban living. The result is a quiet, luxurious residence that feels deeply rooted in its context, defined not by its constraints, but by its connection to nature.
